Asthma Script

This is the script that was used for the Asthma version of the ORCA pre-pilot assessments. If you would like to view the script for the Energy Drinks version of the ORCA assessments instead, you can do that here. This Asthma script shows the language that was used in the Asthma ORCA, the language that students actually saw while they were taking the assessment. The script contains links to the email message with research task instructions that students viewed during the assessment, as well as to the actual websites that students visited.  Note that the Asthma task is unrestricted. This means that, unlike the Energy Drinks task in which students are given the names of specific articles to search for, students in the Asthma task are not given names of specific articles. Instead, students are simply asked to search for information about a particular aspect of the research question (e.g. “chihuahuas cannot cure asthma” or “chihuahuas can cure asthma”).

Notes

1. Help prompts appear in bold. These prompts only appear in the assessment if the student exceeds response time parameters at a location.

2. Brianna is the name of the first and main student avatar, who guides the student throughout the research process.

3. Mr. Henry is the name of the teacher avatar used in the assessment.

4. Jordan is the name of the second student avatar, used for the critical evaluation section only.

5. Each test taker’s first name appears in the assessment where the words “FIRST NAME” appear in this script. Student’s first and last initials appear where “FN” appears in the script.

6. You can view the wiki and the websites by clicking on the words, “Click here,” which are hyperlinked to additional pages.
